The Sony ECM-678/9X is a super-cardioid shotgun microphone with a longer barrel than the ECM-673 for tighter off-axis rejection, making it well suited to boom operation and camera-mounted use on HDV, DVCAM, and XDCAM camcorders. A built-in low-cut filter switch helps tame handling rumble and wind noise on the fly.
