How data recovery works at Impulse Cameras

Four steps, and you stay in control of the price.

1

Bring it in or ship it to us

Drop it off at our Oak Creek store, or ship it. If you ship it, call or email first so we expect it, and pack the card or drive in an anti-static bag.

2

We evaluate it, free

We look at what can be recovered. Within 24 hours we tell you what we found and how long the recovery will take.

3

You get a quote that lists your files

The quote shows what we can recover. You pay only if you approve it. No data, no charge.

4

You get your files back

We return your recovered files on your own drive, or on a drive bought from us.

Do this right now to protect your photos

  • Stop using the card or drive. New photos or files can overwrite the ones you want back.
  • Do not format it, even if your camera or computer asks you to.
  • Take the card out of the camera and switch the camera off.
  • Don't run repair tools on the card or drive, and don't save recovery software onto it.
  • Stop plugging in a drive that clicks or isn't detected. Every try can add damage.
  • Call us. The evaluation is free: 414-574-0110.

What we can't recover, and how we still help

We do recovery in the store on cards and drives that power on and are detected by a computer. A drive that clicks, is not detected, or has water or fire damage is physically broken. That work needs a clean-room lab.

We refer those drives to a clean-room lab for you, and we charge nothing for that. We would rather tell you plainly than take your money for something we can't do.

Your files stay private

Your photos are yours. We only open what we need to recover them, we don't share them, and we delete our working copy once you confirm your files open.

Data recovery questions, answered

How much does data recovery cost?

The evaluation is free. Memory cards and USB sticks start at $99 up to 128 GB and $149 above that. External hard drives and SSDs start at $199 up to 2 TB and $299 above that. The final price depends on how much we recover, and your quote shows it before you pay. Large or complex jobs get a custom quote after the evaluation. If we can't get your files back, there is no charge.

How long does recovery take?

Within 24 hours of getting your card or drive, we tell you what we found and how long the recovery will take. The turnaround depends on how much is on the card or drive and how badly it is damaged.

Is my data private?

Yes. Your files are yours. We only open what we need to recover them, we don't share them, and we delete our working copy once you confirm your files open.

What if you can't recover my files?

No data, no charge. You only pay after you approve a quote, and the quote lists what we can recover. If there is nothing to recover, you owe us nothing.

Is recovery guaranteed? What is your recovery rate?

Our recovery rate is 95%. Every card and drive is different, so we don't promise a result before we have looked at yours. The evaluation is free, and your quote lists exactly what we can recover.

Do I need to buy a new drive?

No. We return your recovered files on your own drive or card, or on a drive bought from us. Either way, we never write anything onto the damaged card or drive.

Can you recover video files?

Yes. We recover video clips from camera cards and drives, along with photos, RAW files and other documents. Very large clips that were partly overwritten may come back incomplete, and the quote tells you what we can recover before you pay.

Can you recover photos from a phone?

We recover files from microSD cards, including the card from a phone. For a phone's built-in storage, call us at 414-574-0110 first and we will tell you honestly whether we can help.

Can you recover deleted photos from a card I already formatted?

Often, yes, as long as nothing new has been saved to the card since. Stop using the card, don't format it again, and bring it in. The evaluation is free.

Do you recover CFexpress, CF and SD cards from cameras?

Yes. We work on SD, microSD, CF and CFexpress cards, including cards from Sony, Canon and Nikon cameras. Bring the card in or ship it to us.

My drive is clicking or isn't detected at all. Can you help?

A drive that clicks, or that no computer detects, is physically damaged and needs a clean-room lab. We refer it to one for you and we charge nothing for that. Stop plugging the drive in, because every attempt can make the damage worse.

Can I ship my card or drive to you?

Yes. Call 414-574-0110 or email sales@impulsemke.com first so we expect it. Pack the card or drive in an anti-static bag inside a padded envelope or small box, and send it to Impulse Cameras, 7965 S Main Street, Oak Creek, WI 53154.
