How to buy used camera gear
Used gear is the smartest way to stretch a budget — if you know what to look for. Here's how we inspect and grade our gear, and how to buy with confidence.
How we inspect and grade
Every used item is hand-inspected and tested by our team in Milwaukee, then graded by condition — Excellent, Great, Good, Open Box, and similar — with honest notes on wear and exactly what's included. The photos on each listing are of the actual item you'll receive, not stock images, so you can judge the real condition before you buy. Serial numbers are listed where present.
What "sold as-is" means
Used items are sold as-is, with all sales final, so the listing details matter. Read the condition notes, study the photos, and check what's included — batteries, caps, chargers, cases. If anything is unclear, message us or stop by the shop before you buy; we're happy to answer questions and pull the exact item for you.
What to check before you buy
For camera bodies, look at overall condition and included accessories, and ask about shutter count on higher-use models. For lenses, the glass matters most — our notes call out any marks, haze, or fungus. For anything battery-powered, confirm which batteries and chargers are included. Vintage and film gear is bought for character as much as function, so the condition notes and photos tell the story.
Why buy used
A two- or three-year-old body often costs a fraction of new while delivering nearly identical image quality, and lenses age especially well — a well-kept lens performs like new for decades. Buying used also keeps good gear in service longer, and it's often the only way to find discontinued bodies, classic glass, and vintage film cameras. Whether you're after a pre-owned mirrorless body, a second-hand prime lens, or open-box accessories at a discount, used is the smart way to build your kit for less.
Frequently asked questions
Is used camera gear reliable?
Yes — when it's inspected. Cameras and especially lenses are built to last, and a well-maintained used body can outperform a new entry-level one. Every item we sell is hand-checked and tested, with condition notes and real photos so there are no surprises.
What does "sold as-is" mean? Can I return it?
Used items are sold as-is and all sales are final, so the listing notes and photos are your guide. We inspect and describe each item honestly and will answer any question before you buy. If you want certainty, visit our Milwaukee shop to handle the exact item in person.
What's included with a used item?
It varies by item, and we spell it out in each listing — batteries, caps, chargers, cases, and any extras are noted specifically. If a charger or cap isn't listed, assume it isn't included and reach out if you need one.
Should I buy new or used?
Used is often the smarter buy for bodies and almost always for lenses — you get more capability per dollar. Buy new when you need the latest features, full warranty coverage, or a specific current model. For learning, building a kit, or finding discontinued and vintage gear, used wins.
How often do you add used gear?
Regularly — our used inventory rotates constantly as new arrivals come through. If you don't see what you're after today, check back soon or contact the shop and we'll keep an eye out for you.
